Last year, MaverickEye and NJORD Law Firm announced a joint enforcement program in Finland. Since then, enforcement has started related to more than 30 movies also but also in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Now the effort is being further strengthened.
On February 1, 2013, UK’s Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) revealed they joined the Economic Crime Unit’s police officers to carry out raids on many parts of central England. After the anti-piracy group’s investigation, the police raided the most prolific online movie pirates in the UK namely Graeme Reid, Scott Hemming, Reece Baker, Sahil Rafiq, and Ben Cooper. They were arrested and all had pleaded guilty to charges of Conspiracy to Defraud by January 2015.
Hollywood studios may be gearing up to fight the global war against online movie piracy and Dallas Buyers Club is just the start of it all. Behind closed doors, the United States and Japan are leading the negotiations between Australia along with nine other countries in the Pacific Rim.
